Probably one of the most common phrases I hear out of people’s mouths when they see me for the first time in a while is…
“You’re so busy! How are you doing it all?”
As someone who has been doing it all most of her life, it can look from the outside that everything is busy-ness as usual.
What people don’t know is that I’ve come so far from the not-so-pretty “do-it-all” lifestyle.
For more than 10 years I wore myself thin, so much so that I didn’t even have time to notice that my chronic, knife-stabbing pain in my stomach was trying to warn me of my dangerously out-of-control need to please.
Because of my fear to upset people, I didn’t know how to say “no,” how to set healthy boundaries or how to let my body rest when it needed to. I was afraid if I didn’t do it all, I would lose love in my life from friends, family and partners, and well, LOVE has always been the most important thing to me. Who would I be without it?
Thank goodness it’s been nearly 4 years since those stomach pains went away for good.
Today, I’m going to share with you some of my key Me Time Rituals, a few ways that I Legit Love myself, specifically when preparing for something that is going to take a lot of energy, dedication and love. For you, this could be a big presentation, a new product launch, or even, a tough conversation that you need to have.
With only 10 days until my second Sensory EXPLOSION event, my Me Time Rituals are in full force right now!
Here are 5 of my secret ways that I prepare my body for a big event:
15 Minutes of Meditation
I do this when I first wake up to begin my day intentionally and peacefully. As Co-Founder of the Chopra Center, David Simon used to put it RPM – Rise. Pee. Meditate. If I’m not participating in a free 21 day meditation challenge through Deepak Chopra or the Mentors Channel, I set my phone to Pandora station “Heart Meditations,” put my phone on a timer for 15 minutes, and voila – instant meditation!

This stuff really get the old bowels movin! I use Bragg’s organic, unfiltered apple cider vinegar. Put a tablespoon or two in an 8 ounce glass of water. I also add a few drops of my Young Living lemon essential oil to help alkalize my body – plus, it helps with the super zingy taste of the ACV! Throw that puppy back and you’ll be moving and grooving in the bathroom in no time. A load off your body, literally!
Because I’m pretty busy, I will have a tendency to plant my tush at the computer and forget to get up and move. So, I get up at least a couple of times a week and go for a 30-45 minute walk around my neighborhood. I go at a good clip to get my blood flowing and focus specifically on releasing any tension in my body.
BONUS: Walks help me get into my creative flow. Some of my best ideas come while on walks (and also in the shower!)

Cut Back on Refined Sugar & Up the Protein
It’s best during times of preparing for something big, to keep your energy level steady. I don’t recommend doing a juice cleanse too close to the big day because your body should really be at rest while fasting. Since this is a time of doing quite a bit, preparing for what is to come, I recommend upping your juice intake, but also eating solid foods. For me, cutting back on refined sugars – bye, bye pan au chocolate at my favorite French Café in Las Vegas – and upping my protein by incorporating a little bit of meat into my diet helps to ground me. If meat isn’t your thing, up your intake of beans and dark leafy greens. It’s important to feel solid, secure, stable during this time so that you have long-range energy to put into the results of your big day. Pay attention to your body to see what foods help you feel grounded.
FUN FACT: Did you know red foods are grounding because they are the color of the root chakra? Strawberries, red bell peppers…ground us baby!
While I’m preparing for the big day, I often get focused so much on the details, what’s on my to-do list, the next person I need to connect with, how many people need to register for me to break even – or better – make a profit, that I forget to play. For me, I know it’s important to schedule a playful, expressive activity as I’m preparing for my event. This will help me get out of my head and into my body. One of my favorite ways to do this is by painting. Take one of the guided group painting classes in your area and let your creativity free. Don’t worry about what everyone else is doing, just enjoy your own process and unique style. This will help clear your mind – preparing a blank canvas – for when you’re ready to get back to the nitty gritty, yet very important, details of your big day.
