Has your 2015 taken off as quickly as mine has?! I can’t believe we’re already going into the 3rd week of January – wowzers!
Between Fill Your Cup Friday (happening again Friday, Jan. 30!) and Self Care Saturday events, Her Radiance Revealed webinars, Radiance Breakthrough calls with women to explore the possibility of Bali, AND my work full time at the airline, there are DEFINITELY moments when I feel completely overwhelmed.
Thank GOD I’ve developed a Radiant Self Care practice for myself to make it through these times with a little more grace and love for my body, mind and soul.
If you’re like me, you’ve got loads you want to do this year. But just the thought of these things can be overwhelming…or worse – downright stressful.
So, to help you sort out your busy schedule while still maintaining a sense of peace, I’m sharing my #1 Radiant Self Care tip that helps me continue to do it ALL (without the overwhelm).
Seriously, this tip is a no brainer but something most of us don’t do.
I’ve been doing it for 5 years now and it saves my tush from overwhelm every time.
My Number 1 Tip to Manage Your Busy Schedule, Avoid Overwhelm & Still Do It All:
Put EVERYTHING in the calendar on your phone. EVERYTHING.
I’m talking grocery shopping, reminders to call people back, vino dates, project deadlines, dance classes, trips to Bali (hey, YOU could be coming with me on The Radiance Recharge!)…and more.
Here’s an example of my day today:
I know it seems simple, but it works miracles!
Putting things in your calendar creates a visual snapshot of exactly how much time you are dedicating to others and how much time you are dedicating to your Radiant Self Care.
It’s important to keep all to-dos in one location. As your appointments/events/activities add up, your to-do list grows longer. Sometimes you won’t realize how long your list is, if your appointments aren’t in one central location (i.e. scattered on post-it notes, scribbled on napkins and written in a planner). Putting them all into your phone solves this problem.
As soon as you schedule something, add it to your phone calendar immediately. When you add something to your calendar right away, you are creating a system of Radiant Self Care for yourself by respecting your time. Your time is precious and should be enjoyed, not cause you to turn into a cray-cray grouchy stressed-out wilderbeast woman! (okay, maybe that’s just me when I don’t respect my time!)
Be aware of your ratio of to-dos versus Me Time. As you add things to your phone calendar, you can see what you have lined up for that day, that week, and that month, giving you a perspective of how much space you have left to schedule new things (especially Radiant Self Care activities!). Or, if you should start cutting back on your to-dos because it’s getting to be too much.
My personal rules when scheduling:
(keep in mind everyone is different so do what feels good to you):
- No more than 2 social events per week
- Space out dinner/drink/coffee dates with friends so there are “free” days in between for Radiant Self Care activities
- Add tentative events to calendar immediately to avoid double booking (they can always be changed or deleted)
- When scheduling requires other people’s commitments to a date/time, put the events/appointments in your calendar as soon as someone commits (this helps you keep things straight and is waaaaaay less stressful than trying to play favorites or be “fair” in who gets what time).
- Dedicate at least 1 day per week to Me Time (this is literally scheduled in my calendar as “Me Time” so I stick to it!)
I hope these tips for scheduling help you deal with overwhelm with grace and ease so that you can fit in more Radiant Self Care activities this year 🙂
